Gotta say AP's Ron Fournier got it wrong this time. Obama's pick of Joe Biden was fantastic, for at least three reasons:
1. His image - an older, white-haired white guy. Biden brings the perfect balance for any voters who are less than comfortable with Obama's age or skin tone. There, we said it. It may sound shallow, but guess what, that's reality baby. If you want to ask someone what it's like to be on a truly breakthrough ticket, ask Walter Mondale.
2. His experience. The strongest argument McCain HAD was that Obama lacks foreign policy experience. So Obama picks a guy who leapfrogs McCain in that department - kapow!
3. His mouth. Biden has the charisma and the balls to say and do what a veep candidate needs to say and do. Remember his shot at Giuliani - that every statement out of the guy contained a noun, a verb, and "9/11?" That's exactly the kind of attack dog that Obama will need against a desperate Republican campaign headed up by a Karl Rove protege.
Anyone who is upset about Biden being not unconventional enough, not outsider enough, or not Hillary enough needs to get over it. As with most of the rest of his campaign, Obama has made a truly smart choice in a running mate.
Get some popcorn, McCain - this is gonna be a long movie.

McCane can't remember how many houses he owns.
You want elitist? You want out of touch with American life? John McSame couldn't recall how many homes he and his rich beer-heiress second wife own. Check it out.
excerpt from AP news:
WASHINGTON (AP) - Days after he cracked that being rich in the U.S. meant earning at least $5 million a year, Republican presidential candidate John McCain acknowledged that he wasn't sure how many houses he and his wealthy wife actually own.
"I think - I'll have my staff get to you," McCain responded to a question posed by Politico, according to a story Thursday on the publication's Web site. "It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you."
Later, the McCain campaign told Politico that McCain and his wife, Cindy, have at least four in three states - Arizona, California and Virginia. Newsweek recently estimated the two owned at least seven properties...

The real McCane - a fellow POW's opinion.
For what it's worth, here is Phillip Butler, a highly-decorated fellow former POW describing McCane the man, and why he will not be voting for him:
"I'm disappointed to see John represent himself politically in ways that are not accurate. He is not a moderate Republican. On some issues he is a maverick. But his voting record is far to the right. I fear for his nominations to our Supreme Court, and the consequent continuing loss of individual freedoms, especially regarding moral and religious issues. John is not a religious person, but he has taken every opportunity to ally himself with some really obnoxious and crazy fundamentalist ministers lately. I was also disappointed to see him cozy up to Bush because I know he hates that man. He disingenuously and famously put his arm around the guy, even after Bush had intensely disrespected him with lies and slander. So on these and many other instances, I don't see that John is the "straight talk express" he markets himself to be."
