Rush Limbaugh Endorses Obama

In his own twisted, pill-popping way, chickenhawk windbag Rush Limbaugh has endorsed Senator Obama for the democratic nomination.

How's that? Easy. By telling his listeners to switch their party registration and vote for Hillary in the primaries, because 1) she's more beatable, and 2) the longer she sticks around the more she'll try to bloody-up Obama. From the blowhard's own website:

"...remember, for Pennsylvania, if you want to cross over there, you Republicans, you gotta register by 24th of March if you want to do it legally. We want Hillary to win Pennsylvania. You know what the strategery has been, you know the Limbaugh Effect, Operation Rush the Vote, Create Chaos."

Create chaos, undermine the voting system – the founding fathers must be so proud of you Rush. More importantly, it shows how scared sh*tless the republicans are about running against Senator Obama.

The Pastor Wright flap

So Senator Obama's retiring pastor Jeremiah Wright gave a fiery sermon where he railed on classism and racism in America. He made some unnecessary remarks, and used some salty language to drive the point home. Not his finest moment at the pulpit.

Much hay will probably be made of this, but the bottom line is that Obama was not in the congregation at the time, has clearly condemned (and rejected, and denounced) the remarks in question, and the retiring pastor Wright no longer has anything to do with the Obama campaign. Period.

If you want to question Wright's patriotism, you can start with the fact that he's a former U.S. Marine with three Presidential Commendations. Have you ever heard of an ex-marine using salty language from time to time? (some would argue that there is nothing more patriotic than an ex-marine who uses salty language). He also built his congregation from a mere 87 members in 1972 to over 10,000 with 30 years of stressing community and family values, strong work ethic and helping the poor. His church currently has over 70 programs including youth, literacy, adult education and computer tutoring.

Wright grew up in a time when blacks had the right to be threatened with police dogs and fire hoses, and yet has created a world of good in a tough part of town. He should be given a salute and a pat on the back as he heads out to pasture.

Greg Craig on Hillary's Foreign Policy "Experience"

"There is no support for or substance in the claim that Senator Clinton has passed 'the Commander-in-Chief test.' That claim – as the TV ad – consists of nothing more than making the assertion, repeating it frequently to the voters and hoping that they will believe it."

And who is Greg Craig? None other than a longtime friend and counsel to Bill Clinton!

Craig has known the Clintons since they were at Yale. In fact, some claim that Craig personally introduced Bill and Hillary. During the impeachment trial, Craig served as White House Special Counsel and defended the President before Congress. He was that close to the President.

Craig was also a senior advisor to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and to Senator Kennedy on defense and foreign policy issues. He has represented Nobel Prize recipient Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The Washington Post, and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan among others. The guy has a serious resume.

So let's review: big-time foreign policy experience, personal friend and counsel to the Clintons for four decades, endorsing Obama. Got it.

The "threshold" for commander in chief

Hillary claims she has crossed an invisible "Commander in Chief Threshold," along with McCain (always nice to give props to the opposition), but Senator Obama... not so much. This would seem to seriously question her judgement in declaring Obama a potential running mate, since that would put him a heartbeat away from the presidency.

It also contradicts the admirals and generals from the United States Army, Navy and Air Force who have endorsed Obama, citing his judgment to oppose the war in Iraq before it began, his respect for the Constitution and rule of law, his leadership on behalf of America's servicemen and women and his ability to conduct the diplomacy necessary to restore America's standing in the world.

The American voters also seem to think Obama has crossed the threshold.

The Experience Argument part 2

The Hillarism: "I helped bring peace to Northern Ireland."

Another view: "I don't know there was much she did apart from accompanying Bill (Clinton) going around... being a cheerleader for something is slightly different from being a principal player." – former Northern Ireland First Minister William David Trimble, who shared a Nobel Prize for his peacemaking efforts in Northern Ireland

Trimble also called her claim a "wee bit silly" (try saying that with an Irish accent, it's fun).

One feminist's view of Hillary

"I don't like Hillary because she's so bossy and cold and manipulative"
– outspoken Australian feminist Germain Greer, 3.10.08

Well sure, but one could argue that those are qualities of strength, and would be attributed differently to a man. Maybe you at least have something nice to say about her experience, her qualifications?

"She is there because she is Bill's wife, and it's a bit useless to pretend, 'Oh, it's because of her wonderful job as a senator,'" she told Australia's Nine Network late Monday.

"I just don't think it's true. When she had a big job in government, she blew it," said the British-based Greer, referring to Hillary Clinton's work on health issues during her husband's administration.

Meow.

Clinton's Ferraro problem

Remember Geraldine Ferraro? She unsuccessfully ran for vice president 24 years ago. She's now a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton. Here's what she told a CA newspaper last week:

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

O.k., let's break that down... white, wouldn't be in this position. Woman, wouldn't be in this position. So by process of elimination, Senator Obama is the first-place candidate for the U.S. democratic presidential nomination because he's a black guy. Really? Wow. There you have it folks - we are witnessing the most historic example of affirmative action in American history (bet he wishes he didn't waste all that time in Harvard Law School).

What is it they say again, about the company you keep?

The Canadian assurances over NAFTA

Wait a second – it was actually Hillary's people who did that!

And let's not forget how many times she praised NAFTA over the years.

The Rezko thing

Sometimes former donors go bad. And now that Obama has returned the donation money from the guy, this dog is getting too tired to hunt.

But if you want to talk about influence peddling, there's always the millions in donations to the Clinton Foundation from the Saudis, United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Kuwait and friends. Can you say, "Who's your Daddy?"

...or the millions from Marc Rich, one of the most wanted income tax evaders in history, who was pardoned by (wait for it...) Bill Clinton in 2001.

(bonus trivia: Rich was represented by Lewis "Scooter" Libby for 15 years)

And how are those tax returns coming, Hillary? Maybe after PA?

Comparing Obama to Ken Starr

(Clinton Spokesviper Howard Wolfson)

Thanks for bringing it up, Howard. Kenneth Starr investigated Bill Clinton's sexual misconduct in the oval office and subequent lying under oath. His steamy report lead to Clinton's impeachment and a moral backlash without which George W. Bush may never have become president. So if you've enjoyed the last seven years, you've partially got a Clinton to thank.

The Economy / Jobs

O.k., how about the job rates in New York under Clinton's first senate term? Notice how well she deflects the blame for her pledge going off the rails.

The Iraq War

Hillary voted for the Iraq War. Whether from fear of not appearing hawkish enough, or after drinking a tall glass of Dubya's famous "Saddam=9/11" Kool-Aid,® Hillary voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq. She wishes she could take it back, but she can't un-shoot that gun. If this represents her judgement when she has time to deliberate, heaven help her judgement at 3 a.m.

The Experience Argument

The Hillarism: She is more experienced, therefore she should be president.

Counterpoint: By this argument, her husband Bill never should have become president over a former CIA Director. More importantly, when it comes to her own record "Clinton is taking credit for accomplishing more than some of those who were active in foreign policy during the Clinton years recall." – AP News 3.8.08
(Hmm...like negotiating those Kosovo borders with Sheryl Crow and Sinbad?)
